How Can I Get Involved?

The C&BA Women’s Initiative Program has several areas where we can use assistance.

I was fortunate enough during my junior and senior years at The U of A Culverhouse College of Business Administration to have two wonderful professors/administrators take me under their wings and mentor me.  I know without a doubt that I would not be where I am today had they not cared enough to help teach, lead and guide me.  Now it is my turn to give back to our great Business School.  The WIP has provided me with that opportunity.  Not only is it very rewarding for me but I know it is helping  mold and develop more successful women business leaders of tomorrow.

I’m sure you can recall at least one person who served as a role model as you developed success in your career.  From your past experiences, I'm sure you can agree that having a mentor can be vital to your career success. That is why the Women's Initiative Program offers our female business students professional guidance through one-on-one mentoring and educational sessions.

We always are in need of accomplished females involved in a business career who are willing to volunteer their time to assist a student with their career plans and professional growth.

You can click on the links below for more information about the specific requirements of mentoring a student. If you are interested in mentoring a student, please contact Amy Henderson, Coordinator for the C&BA Women’s Initiative.

Extended Mentoring Program

By joining the Women’s Initiative Program as a part of our “extended mentoring” program, you will make a significant difference in the lives of the students.  We recognize that some women are too busy to be part of the regular year long mentoring program. As a mentor in our “extended mentoring program”, you will help our students by providing them with access to an additional mentor that they can contact for one-time advice on career issues in their field of interest.

Interactive Session Panel Presenters

A large part of the menoting program includes interactive panels that are led by female executives discussing business related topics. We are in need of executives who are experts in their industry to lead the interactive sessions with students.  Session topics in the past have included informative sessions on internship opportunities, voice training, professional etiquette, resume building, how to negotiate salaries, understanding benefit options, having difficult conversations in the work place and many more.

Program Funding

The purpose of the C&BA Women’s Initiative Program is to capitalize on the mentoring process in order to enhance the educational and career options for our female business students.  The program offers 6-8 sessions per month with speakers from various industries to discuss resume building, internship opportunities, how to have difficult conversations at work as well as salary negations, interview skills, and many other educational topics.

Private donations currently fund all aspects of the program and come from the generosity of alumni and friends of the College from around the country.  Every aspect of this program and its success depends on the continued volunteer work and financial generosity of those who value higher education and want to be involved in building tomorrow’s future through the careers of our upcoming female business leaders.

We invite you to make a difference in the lives of our female students by pledging a gift to the C&BA Women’s Initiative Program.  You will ensure that sessions with leading executives continue to empower our female students with career advice and tips on professional growth unavailable in the traditional classroom experience.
