Where are They Now?
Some former Academy participants, that now attend the University of Alabama, were recently interviewed. They all agreed that attending the University has been a great experience so far. Cody Sumlin said “I can honestly say this is one of the best choices I have ever made.” Olivia Miller agrees, saying “It takes time to adjust to college life, but it is worth it once you make the transition.” All four students that were interviewed are currently majoring in business, with two accounting majors and two finance majors. Cody, Olivia and Randy Beavers live on campus, while Heather Treadaway lives in an apartment off campus.
All four students are very active on campus, with such activities as the Million Dollar Band, University Honors, Avanti Team, Computer Based Honors, a teacher’s assistant for the statistics department, Alpha Lambda Delta, Alpha Kappa Psi and Alabama Finance Association.
There are many things that these four students enjoy about the University. “The faculty and staff are awesome,” states Heather. Cody agrees that the people are great, as he has made friends with people from all over the United States and even some friends from other countries. Olivia appreciates the freedom, while Randy loves the food. The tradition of football is another activity that they value.
All four still maintain a relationship with some of their old Capstone Business Academy friends. These relationships range from Facebook friends to an email every couple of months to talking to them on a regular basis.
They all have ambitious plans for their life after the University of Alabama. Cody plans to continue his vehicle recovery company he began his freshman year, called Gulf Coast Recovery, while working in the real estate industry. Heather plans on sitting for the CPA exam and hopes to join the FBI one day. Randy wants to attend graduate school and eventually take all 10 exams to become a Certified Public Actuary. Olivia wants to sit for the CPA exam and become a corporate accountant.
