Internships Requirements
Steps for students:
- Download, complete, and turn in a C&BA internship application to 10 Bidgood / Student Services. Be sure to indicate the academic semester in which you intend to intern and your preference for course credit. You may select "no" in the appropriate spot if you wish to participate in the program without seeking course credit for the internship.
Include your resume as page three.
- You DO NOT need to await a response when you turn in your application. Proceed with your internship search. Your application WILL be approved if you meet the requirements detailed here. Your application and resume are for C&BA records, whether or not you are seeking internship course credit, and will not be distributed. By the time of the designated internship semester, you must:
- Be a C&BA major with 60 or more earned hours (junior or senior standing)
- Be admitted to the upper division of C&BA
- Have a cumulative 2.5 GPA minimum
- Internships are posted for your review at http://career.ua.edu/crimsoncareers.html.
The internships listed in CrimsonCareers are by no means exhaustive. We encourage your proposals for internships you find through your own searches or contacts. It will benefit you to determine your options (beyond CrimsonCareers) before committing to an internship. Go to
http://www.career.ua.edu/resources/websites.asp for a list of internship web sites, or use a search engine such as Google.
- New internship proposals are welcome, but no student can create an internship and earn academic credit for it without prior approval by the internship coordinator.
To pursue internship options not listed among those in CrimsonCareers, please ask your prospective employer to e-mail a brief project or job description outline to intern@cba.ua.edu and the internship coordinator will follow up with the employer.
- After any online application, follow up by phone to check the status of the positions to which you have applied and request an interview. An internship is confirmed when an employer and a student agree on a placement. To earn course credit after accepting an internship position, you must adhere to the requirements that follow:
- File with with the internship coordinator before the start of the internship a resume and a C&BA internship application (download from the link above), including any paperwork required by your internship employer.
- Begin the approved internship during the first week of the semester at which time you must e-mail to the internship coordinator your 10-hour-minimum weekly work schedule. You will continue working through the last week of classes.
- Comply with all rules, guidelines, and professional conduct set forth by your internship employer and by The University of Alabama.
- Earn satisfactory performance evaluation(s) by your employer that will include assessment of your attitude, punctuality, initiative, quality of work, and adaptability.
- Attend any required internship meeting(s).
- Submit a final internship paper on or before its due date.
- To schedule an appointment with the internship coordinator, please phone (205) 348-4537 or visit Student Services in 10 Bidgood Hall.
