Steps for Employers

A brochure is available at CBA internship brochure

Establishing an internship position is simple, and there is no prescribed format to participate. With the educational objective of the internship in mind, employers are encouraged to customize the supervised practical experience according to their business needs as well as the students' career interests and skill development in business functions such as accounting, finance, marketing, and management.

An interested employer e-mails to the internship coordinator a job description of the anticipated intern projects and duties, including the location, compensation, and weekly work hours proposed. Please avoid attachments if possible; rather, include the information in the body of the email. The internship coordinator with C&BA faculty will evaluate the position to ensure that it will be primarily a learning experience. Following an accepted proposal, the internship coordinator will post the internship on UA's online recruiting management system to allow students to submit resumes electronically to employers. The coordinator will work with employers to customize any preferences, such as interview dates or schedules.

Once a new internship has been created, the employer agrees to consider UA intern applicants each semester. The internship posting will remain active unless the employer otherwise notifies the internship coordinator.

UA intern applicants will send resumes to employers, who will then review them and contact students to arrange interviews. Once an employer interviews and offers an internship to a student who accepts, the employer will notify the C&BA internship coordinator. An e-mail will follow to confirm participation and provide further instructions.

Employers are asked to regularly provide feedback to students to establish common understandings of the employer's expectations and the quality of the intern's performance. Employers are also asked to discuss with students at mid-semester any business practices or skills they still want to develop before the internship ends. In addition, employers are encouraged to conduct exit interviews with interns to provide constructive suggestions for areas of continued growth and improvement. At the end, both students and employers will be asked to complete written evaluations for the internship coordinator.
