- Examining causal mechanisms of firm performance (e.g., competitive advantage, rivalry restraint, information asymmetry, and commitment timing) contribute to superior value creation and value appropriation, and the effects of environmental uncertainty on their contributions.
- The role of information technology (IT) in enhancing these contributions, particularly to innovation and performance in entrepreneurial ventures and small business.
- The design and application of virtual environments using intelligent agent-based simulation to study the contributions to superior value creation and value appropriation under conditions of high environmental dynamism.

Dr. Drnevich has also presented over two dozen papers on these topics at major international conferences such as the Academy of Management, the Babson Conference on Entrepreneurship Research, Southern Management Association, and the Strategic Management Society. He is on the editorial board of Academy of Management Learning & Education, the McKinsey Quarterly’s Executive Panel, and serves as an ad hoc reviewer for the Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Management & Organization, Journal of Management Studies, Journal of Small Business Management, and Strategic Management Journal.
Prior to his academic career, Dr. Drnevich worked as the manager of Research and Information for McKinsey and Company's High Tech Strategy Consulting practice. His public and private sector work and consulting experience include: American Express, Ford Motor Company, Gartner Group, Indiana State & Local Government, Kentucky State Government, Mellon Financial, MicroStrategy, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and the U.S. Federal Government.
