- Mr. Gerdes has served in several newspaper positions, including that of Metropolitan Editor at the Birmingham Post-Herald. He also was responsible for media relations, crisis communications, executive communications and issues management with a major health care system. As senior communications specialist in the College of Commerce and Business Administration, his role is to manage and engage in efforts in the areas of media relations, College-wide publications, advertising, on-line and interactive media, overall external positioning of the College, student supervision and instruction in the area of media relations and publications, and strategic planning and alumni relations and development. His writing has been published in a number of newspapers and magazines.
