OM Advisory Board
Purpose
The purpose of the Operations Management Advisory Board (OMAB) is to provide guidance and support for the Operations Management program at The University of Alabama. The tremendous growth of the OM program as well as business operations within the state make it important that the college establish a means for guiding and promoting the OM program to capitalize on these opportunities. The advisory board will provide guidance for the educational programs in OM and help facilitate the recruitment of students and employers for the OM program. The advisory board will support networking and job placement opportunities for students in the program and will also facilitate networking between OM professionals and faculty.
Organization
The OM advisory board will be composed of 10-20 members in two categories: corporate members and individual members. Corporate members are sponsored by a specific company and represent the interests of that company. The annual dues for a corporate membership are $2,000. Because individual members do not receive the same economic benefits as corporate sponsors, they are not expected to pay dues. Membership on the board will be approved by the director of the OM program in consultation with the current advisory board members.
The advisory board will meet at least once a year to provide specific feedback on the status of the program and advice on how the program can grow and improve. Board members will also be polled periodically for input on strategic issues facing the program. The board will be briefed on information about the academic programs at the meetings, and board members will also have the opportunity to meet and interact with students and faculty in the program. In consideration for their financial support, corporate members will be given advance access to the OM resume book as well as an opportunity to participate in mock interview sessions with the students. Corporate members will be advertised as program sponsors on the OM program website as well as in the promotional literature. Corporate members will also have the opportunity to obtain student class projects for their company.
Each year the board will elect a chairman to serve a term of one year. The chairman will work with the OM program director to organize and plan the board meetings as well as other board activities and functions. The chairman will also lead any business meetings for the board.
