Todd Balsley, Graduate Leverage Executive Vice President, Business Development

  • Todd Balsley holds an MBA from Harvard Business School. After graduating from Duke in 1997, Todd joined Accenture’s process consulting group, where he advised clients in a variety of industries. He then spent over three years in business development and consulting roles with a focus on the financial services sector at Ariba, a leading enterprise software vendor.

  • Graduate Leverage is the fastest growing student lending organization in the United States. Todd presented to graduate students in business and law about debt management and how his organization achieves lower rates for students through collective bargaining. The event was well attended and Todd's recommendations were welcomed by many UA students who are managing student debt.

John Croyle, Founder, Big Oak Ranch

  • John spoke to a packed room of undergraduate and graduate students about staying true to your goals in life and giving back to those in need. The inspiring talk left many students with a renewed lease on life as John spoke about discovering and pursuing your passion and purpose.

  • Big Oak ministry grew out of John's desire to give hurting children a chance. John successfully played football at the University of Alabama under the legendary coach Paul "Bear" Bryant. Faced with one of the most important decisions of his life -- whether to play professional football or to start a children's home -- John followed the Lord's leadership and established Big Oak Boys' Ranch in 1974.

March 21

Dr. Midkiff, Director of the UA Center for Advanced Vehicle Technologies

  • Dr. Midkiff is described by one peer as "an engineer with a personality." Speaking in front of a packed room of MBA students, Dr. Midkiff spoke about energy issues that shape tomorrow's mobility technologies and the challenges of meeting energy needs in a sustainable way. His solution to many of these issues is developing renewable hydrogen vehicle technologies, which is the basis for much of his departments work.

  • The UA Center for Advanced Vehicle Technologies promotes interdisciplinary research across the University through various research and education programs.  The vision of the Center is to assist in the development of efficient, safe, secure, economical, durable, comfortable, and user- and environmentally-friendly vehicles for meeting the transportation needs of America through discovery, research and education.
