Financial Support
All students accepted will be offered support through departmental assistantships for up to four years. The awards currently are $15,000 for 9 months with a full tuition grant for a full-time (.5 FTE award) student and health care insurance coverage. The awards involve nine-month assignments as either a teaching and/or research assistant. The program currently in place provides for full funding for up to four years (contingent on yearly renewal based on satisfactory performance). Students are expected to spend two years as a research assistant and two years as a teaching assistant. All students are expected to develop basic proficiencies as both teachers and researchers during the program. Most students will be asked to teach one summer class at $3,000--assuming the class reaches a basic enrollment level. Limited additional summer teaching assignments (beyond one class) may also be available at $2,500 per class. Health care insurance coverage information is available on Graduate School website.
Students who are accepted into our program are automatically considered for eligibility for fellowships and assistantships. The student need not apply separately for these awards. Students admitted to our program will be offered full departmental support as part of their packages.
Graduate Council Fellowships
A number of financial support packages are available for highly qualified applicants. The Graduate School offers Graduate Council Fellowships on a competitive basis for highly qualified students. Currently these fellowships provide $15,000 in support plus a full tuition grant for the first year, with the department often supplementing this with some additional funds. Some Graduate Council Fellowships include additional supplemental funding in the second year. Then students go back on the departmental payroll for the remainder of their time here. The Graduate School also offers some fellowships for summers and later years in the student’s program. The support is available on a competitive basis.
