Master's Program

The University of Alabama’s Master of Science in Marketing (MSM) is an intensive nine month degree program designed to give students advanced analytical marketing skills and hands-on marketing project management experience.

In less than one year, our students enter the business world with a master of science degree, marketing decision-making experience, increased confidence, and a deep skill set of marketing tools with which to jumpstart careers in one of marketing's many fast-growth fields:

  • Brand or product management;

  • Logistics and supply chain management;

  • Marketing research and marketing analysis;

  • Management consulting and project management;

  • Professional selling and sales management;

  • Retail management, services marketing, and buying; or

  • Academics

An undergraduate degree in marketing, or even in business, is not a prerequisite for the MSM. Many of the program's most successful graduates have blended a non-business background with a year of advanced marketing studies to create a skill set highly appropriate for their career aspirations.

The Alabama MSM program requires 30 semester hours of coursework, with the expectation that the degree can be completed in two semesters. Six hours of the 30 are reserved for internship-related activities. Coursework in the MSM program provides students with a solid understanding of contemporary marketing issues as well as experience in advanced analytical and marketing research techniques necessary for sound marketing decisions.

Related team projects and marketing internships provide opportunities for students to apply their newly developed skills in actual real world situations. Clients for the team-based marketing projects and internships have included Fortune 500 companies, national and regional firms, local businesses, public sector organizations, and start-ups.

Entrance is limited to the fall semester. There are no accomodations for starting coursework in January. Current undergraduate students should begin preparation early (taking the GMAT and having letters of recommendation sent) and should apply for admission during the fall prior to or early spring of the year for which admission is sought. International students will need to pass the TOEFL exam prior to acceptance into the program.
