Marketing
The Exciting World of Marketing
Marketing involves, and is integrated with, most activities that occur in businesses and other types of organizations. Marketing professionals often are involved in conducting and/or using marketing research or information to understand customers' needs and the competitive landscape of the market. Armed with this knowledge, these and other marketing professionals:
- Develop new products or modify existing products to better suit customers' needs;
- Develop and execute plans for promoting products to customers-perhaps through a sales force or advertising;
- Develop relationships with other organizations-such as retailers-to assist in delivering the product or service; and
- Analyze and monitor demand, customer service levels, and other performance indicators.
Students who major in marketing enjoy a wide range of employment opportunities. Entry-level opportunities exist in sales and sales management, retail management, product and brand management, market research, advertising, distribution and logistics, purchasing, and other areas.
The marketing curriculum offers four specializations:
- Consumer Marketing;
- SalesĀ
- Supply Chain Management; and
- World Business Concentration in International Marketing
Each specialization can lead to productive and profitable marketing careers.
