PROGRAMS: MIS programs are tightly focused on improving the development and delivery of information systems solutions. UA MIS faculty members collaborate on prescriptive research programs related to the entire systems development lifecycle, from governance and portfolio management, to software maintenance and evolution.

The new MIS Doctoral program admitted its first student cohort group in fall 2005. Consistent with our overall mission, this program develops faculty members with a passion for improving the development and delivery of information systems solutions. Each year, the program admits a cohort of 2-4 experienced IS professionals who strive to join the academic community as active researchers and teachers.

The UA MIS MBA program, recently ranked by Computerworld as one of the nation’s best Techno-MBA programs, has now evolved as a dual MBA / MS MIS program. Each MBA/MS-MIS student is paired with an MIS undergraduate team and serves as the team's project manager. The team completes a high priority systems development project for a client firm (including Procter and Gamble, CGI-AMS, U.S. Dept. of Commerce, and many others).

The MIS Forum, the program’s industrial advisory board, is composed of 20 IS executives (VP/CIOs and consulting partners) from leading global organizations. The MIS Forum aids the program through access to research data, research collaboration, program direction, and student scholarships.

The MIS faculty is actively engaged in sponsored research through the Enterprise Integration Lab, Manufacturing Information Technology Center, and the Aging Infrastructure Systems Center of Excellence. Through these research units, MIS faculty members direct research projects totaling more than three million dollars annually (from NSF, NASA, U.S. Department of Transportation and the State of Alabama).
