Computer Science (CS) Mentoring is a student run program that provides assistance and resources to students in programming and database courses. MIS students who have completed these courses instruct and guide current students in the fundamentals of programming.

Better programs, leaders, instructions, problem-solvers and communicators are created through the mentoring program each semester making it an important aspect of the professional and educational careers of all involved students. Not only are mentors giving back to their fellow students, they are also perfecting their own computer science skills as well as improving valuable qualities such as communication, time management, and people skills. These qualities are essential to any business professional, but are often not taught in the classroom. Because of this, participation in such activities as mentoring allows a student to become more well-rounded and skilled in these areas.

Goals:

  • Provide a resource to students in Computer Science classes to assist them with their programming, problem solving, algorithm, and technical skills.
  • Encourage students to give back to future generations of students and to help those mentors grow their own instructional, programming related, managerial, and interpersonal skills.
  • Recruit and retain students in the MIS program by providing them with class assistance and introducing them to upperclassmen and faculty.
