Yong Ho Shin Gallery

This gallery is named after Yong Ho Shin, founder of Kyobo Life Insurance company. Shin was a charismatic entrepreneur who helped Korea not just to recover, but to thrive, in the years following the devastating Korean War.

In 1958, when Yong Ho Shin founded Daehan Kyoyuk Insurance Company, later renamed Kyobo Life Insurance, Korea was still suffering from the economic and social affects of the war. Shin, also known as Daesan, meaning "The Great Mountain," saw the youth as the future and turned his attention to promoting education.

His first step in this endeavor was to create the world's first "educationOutside of Shin Galleryal insurance policy," combining life insurance principles with youth education. His spirit as a pioneer and creator contributed significantly to wide distribution of educational insurance during Korea's modernization era, to the growth of the domestic insurance industry and to the rapid development of Korea's economy.

In the years that followed, Shin continued to work towards educating youth and adults alike. He published books detailing insurance and management philosophies, and founded numerous institutes and foundations to promote the exchange of knowledge and information.

Shin was the first Korean entrepreneur to be nominated as one of the "top 20 domestic entrepreneurs who contributed to Korea's economy." He has earned numerous other honors as well, including the Crown Award from the International Association of University Presidents and the John S. Bickley Founders' Award from the Internationl insurance Society.
