International Programs
Students can gain a competitive edge by studying international business at The University of Alabama. UA has both on-campus programs and a variety of study-abroad options at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
Summer 2009 has been a strong one for International Business Programs. This summer we had two faculty-led study abroad programs; an Interim Program to Turkey led by Dr. Glenn Richey and a summer program to China, led by Dr. Mike Adams and Dr. Xiang Zhang of Modern Languages.
Dr. Richey's course in Turkey centered on international business-to-business relationships, including but not limited to components of economics, politics, culture, demography, geography/nature, and technology in one of the world's leading emerging economies. The course also offered students a safe and unique opportunity to experience a culture where capitalism and Islam mix successfully.
Students with Dr. Adams and Dr. Zhang studied at Xiamen University, one of the best in China. While there the students developed Chinese conversational skills, made visits to historically significant sites, learned about Chinese culture, business, government, ethnic groups, and foreign policies by attending English lectures by distinguished Chinese professors and subject matter experts. After-class explorations exposed students to everyday Chinese life.
In addition to the two faculty-led study abroad programs, C&BA students participated in a number of other summer programs throughout the world. And, our London and Dublin internship programs had strong participation with a total of forty two students on internships in the two cities.
This summer didn't only see our students taking courses. Dr. Glenn Richey and Dr. Chad Hilton studied international marketing and international management at the Faculty Development in International Business program conducted by the highly regarded international business program at the Moore School of Business, the University of South Carolina.
So, summer 2009 has been both busy and successful for C&BA's International Business Programs - and fall 2009 looks every bit as promising as the summer has been.
Global Business Specialization
The Global Business Specialization will extend the student's knowledge of international business beyond what is provided in his or her major - providing the student with the global mindset essential for modern business-people.
Double Major
The Culverhouse College of Commerce and Business Administration, in conjunction with the College of Arts and Sciences, also offers a double major option. This program enables the student to complete a degree (and major) in management, marketing, finance, or economics with a second major in French, German, or Spanish, resulting in a genuinely superior skill-set for competition in an increasingly global business arena.
World Business Minor for Non Business Majors
Our World Business minor offers non- C&BA students an opportunity to focus on the international aspects of business in order to strengthen their chosen major.
Study Abroad
In addition to our regular courses of study in International Business, we also offer a variety of study abroad options. These programs can be either short and intensive or as long as a full year or semester.
