Mission Statement

The mission of the Culverhouse College of Commerce and Business Administration is to excel in the creation, dissemination, and application of business knowledge. We are committed to providing the educational and enrichment experiences that are expected of a full-time residential major state university. We will maintain our position as the premier provider in Alabama and a flagship institution in the Southeast of comprehensive, high quality, cost-effective business education as measured by national standards. We are committed to meeting the needs of students, alumni, the corporate community, state and local government entities in our state, and the greater academic community.

We challenge ourselves to create knowledge through research across the full range of our programs. Knowledge is disseminated through quality teaching and scholarly publication, and is applied both in the classroom and through outreach activities. In all these pursuits, we will be responsive to our stakeholders and innovative in our pedagogy and research. We will continually strive to improve in all areas. Technology will remain a key element in our continuing efforts to improve the quality of classroom instruction.

We will maintain integrity in all of our actions, respect for individual differences and diverse opinions, a participative decision-making style, and quality as the test of all of our actions. We will value performance and diversity and operate in an environment of open communication and shared commitment.

Goals

  1. To be the college of choice for Alabama students and state and regional corporate recruiters and to provide our students with the skills and knowledge to enable them to work anywhere.
  2. To have a national research reputation and be able to attract quality faculty.
  3. To maintain diversity in our faculty, staff and student body.
  4. To support economic development and outreach initiatives at the local and state levels.
  5. To obtain sufficient funding to accomplish the goals of the College.

We can best reach these goals by having a faculty and staff committed to sharing ideas, respecting others’ opinions and contributions, and striving for innovation.
